Dellin Betances Biography
Dellin Betances is one of the more exciting relief pitchers in baseball. He is a four-time All-Star, making the squad each season from 2014-2017 while with the New York Yankees. Betances mostly served as a the Yankees setup man He made over 70 appearances in 2014 and 2015. In 2014, he was the first New York rookie pitcher to make an All-Star game since 1947. That season Betances posted a 1.40 ERA and 135 strikeouts, which led all relievers. For his tremendous efforts, he finished third in the American League Rookie of the Year voting. In 2015, he followed it up with another 100 strikeout season, becoming the first Yankees receiver to ever fan 100 batters in back-to-back years. Betances originally debuted with the club in 2011, but did not pitch enough until 2014 to qualify as a rookie. He was long regarded as one of the franchise's best prospects after being selected in the eighth round of the 2006 MLB Draft. As a Manhattan native, Betances is a lilfelong Yankees fan who attended many games over the years before suiting up in pinstripes. In 2020, Betances moved across town to play for the New York Mets.

Dellin Betances (; born March 23, 1988) is an American former professional baseballpitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees and New York Mets from 2011 to 2021. Betances was named an MLB All-Star from 2014 to 2017.
Early life
[edit]Betances was born in Washington Heights, Manhattan. His parents, Jaime and Maria, immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic.[1] Jaime is a boxer and drives for a car service. Betances has two older brothers and a younger sister.[2] Spanish was Betances' first language.[3] The family moved to the Lower East Side when he was ten years old.[1]
Betances attended many New York Yankees games with his family as a child. At the age of 10, Betances attended the perfect game of then-Yankees pitcher David Wells in 1998, sitting with the Bleacher Creatures. He credits his family taking him to Yankee games with his choosing baseball over basketball.[4] He played baseball in the summer in the Youth Service League.[5]
Betances attended Progress High School within the Grand Street Campus in Brooklyn, New York.[6] As a freshman, Betances was 6 feet 4 inch
