    Hello, I’m John Heffernan. I’ve been a farmer for most of my adult life, but over the past twenty-odd years I’ve also published more than fifty books, both under my own name and under a pseudonym. I’ll still keep creating books until the Big Eraser Upstairs rubs me out. But now I’m at a point in life where I want to examine what it is that I’ve been trying to do as a story teller, and to focus in this website on the ten to fifteen main books of mine that I feel come close to achieving that aim. 

    Of course you can still view all my other books here, but my main focus will be on those works that hold a special place in my mind - books that I feel come at least close to capturing what I consider the key elements of good story telling.

    I’m doing this partly for my own benefit, to clarify (and even justify if you like) all those years I’ve spent chasing that elusive butterfly of story creation. But I’m also doing this to help aspiring writers out there (whatever their age) to develop what I call “a head for tales” - a mind-set for seeing Life in terms of stories.
