His family moved frequently due to his father's changing jobs. As a child, Tchaikovsky had a serious illness that left him weakened. He was sent to law school in St. Petersburg but was homesick and missed his family. Though not from a particularly musical background, Tchaikovsky's early passion for music would develop him into one of the most famous Russian composers.
